How Much Does A Bonsai Cost?

Bonsai trees can cost anywhere from $75 up to $5,000. Generally speaking, a regular average sized bonsai tree costs around $50 to $100. The more expensive bonsai trees can cost up to $1,000,000.

As you can see, there is no exact answer to the cost of bonsai trees. There are many different factors that play into this, like age, size, and what kind of bonsai tree it is.

I have bought more than 15+ different bonsai trees in the past, and the average price I paid was around $75. If you’re going to buy a bonsai tree yourself, make sure to do some research before buying one.

Many people overpay for a bonsai tree because they don’t have any knowledge about what the bonsai is actually worth. An easy way to tell is to look if the bonsai tree is styled. If you can tell that the bonsai tree is basic styled and they’re charging $100+, you’re probably overpaying.

However, this is not always the case. The size also matters and how old the bonsai tree is. Let’s get into the different costs of different bonsai trees.

Bonsai Light Cost

Lights aren’t that expensive, but it depends on how much light your bonsai tree needs. Most people don’t need to buy a light for their bonsai if the tree gets enough sunlight. If you have your bonsai tree in a dark room, then it might be smart to look for a bonsai light.

The best light to get is CFL bulbs, T5 or T8 fluorescent lighting. To make sure your bonsai trees are growing, you probably need to keep the lights on for 16 to 19 hours a day. As you can see this can be quite expensive.

The total cost monthly would be around $25 – $40, depending on where you live. The majority of people that have a bonsai tree put their tree outside for sunlight. This will save you lots of money, and you don’t have to build an indoor lighting room.

What I normally do is let my bonsai trees sit outside for the majority of the day. Only when it rains, and it’s getting dark, I move my bonsai trees inside.

Bonsai Ficus Cost

The average cost of a bonsai ficus starts at $50 up to $150. Of course, there are more expensive trees, but generally speaking, it’s no more than $150 for a starter’s ficus. The price typically depends on the size and rarity of the tree.

For example, A six-inch tall tree will be less expensive than an eight-foot-tall one. There are many factors that go into pricing a Bonsai plant, including rarity and age of the tree as well as shape and root quality.

It is not a surprise that bonsai ficus trees are expensive. They are, after all, an investment in your home and garden.

The Bonsai Ficus is one of the most popular plants in the world. It’s also one of the easiest to care for, and it can grow to be a very tall plant as well.

After all, the ficus bonsai doesn’t cost a lot to take care of since they don’t require any special tools besides some water and sunlight.

They are also very low maintenance plants that will require only minimal care and watering once they have matured. These plants have the added benefit of being able to stay in one place for years at a time, unlike some other types of plants.

Bonsai Japanese Maple Cost

Bonsai Japanese Maple trees are one of the most popular types of bonsai trees. They grow to a height of about 10-12 inches and are available in many different color variations including red, green, black, purple, gold, and silver. These small plants can be purchased for as little as $15 at your local nursery or garden center.

If you are looking to get a bigger Japanese maple bonsai, there are a few things that must be considered, such as:

What color variation do you want?

The color the Japanese maple tree has can get expensive. Especially the more popular ones like gold or purple ones.

There are many different styles and shapes for bonsais too which can change the price as well. For example, cascading or weeping trees.

Do you want a pre-made bonsai or one that will need to be grown from a seedling?

Growing a bonsai from seed can be more fun than buying one that’s already pre-made and beautiful as is. Of course, this is for everyone different, but I like to grow bonsai trees myself since there’s more of a personal feel to it.

If you’re going to grow a bonsai yourself you should know that it can take anywhere from a few months to a year before you’ll see anything but the seedling.

If you turn out not liking growing bonsai trees or just want one right away, then buying is your best bet. If this sounds like what’s for you, though, I suggest doing some research and finding out how many different types there are.

Is Bonsai an Expensive Hobby?

Growing a bonsai isn’t that expensive of a hobby. In fact, most people can grow one for about $50-$100, and they’re worth every penny!

It might take some time before you see any progress, but if you like taking care of plants, you’ll love taking care of this. When I first started out, it took a few months before I saw any progress.

However, once it started growing, it gave me a sense of accomplishment. So, if you like planting your own trees and want to get a bonsai, then I would absolutely recommend it.

It’s really not that expensive, and the satisfaction you get out of growing a bonsai is worth so much more than what you’ll pay for them!

Why Are Bonsai Trees So Expensive?

Bonsais are expensive because they require meticulous attention from an individual who has experience with this. Most people don’t want to spend a lot of time taking care of a bonsai.

But the time and energy that goes into bonsai trees, it’s worth the end result. It can take years before the bonsai trees bloom and look their best.

As bonsai trees grow, their trunks become more pronounced with age as the branches are trimmed away over time.

Why Are Bonsai Scissors So Expensive?

Bonsai scissors are expensive because they are made to do a specific job. Bonsai trees require trimming on a regular basis, so the scissors must be sharp enough to cut through even the thickest branches with ease.

There’s no point in purchasing cheap, dull bonsai scissors when they’ll only break and make your work harder. This happened to me many times when I bought cheap bonsai scissors.

So, if you’re going to buy a pair of bonsai scissors, make sure they’re high quality and sturdy!

Bonsai trees vary in pricing depending on the size, height, and design. You can find bonsai trees at your local nursery or garden center for a few hundred dollars up to $1 million if you’re looking for an expensive luxury item.

For most people, it will be much more practical to buy one of the average-priced bonsai tree, which usually cost about $50-$100. Check out our blog if you want some tips as well!
